Hello all, welcome to my first post on the Kronikals. Im Brent Abbott, single, 44 and a competitor in the Scottish Highland Games. This is quite different from other Kronik sponsored athletes. So I thought Id take a second to explain them. It is like a decathalon in that you place overall by your combined results in 7-9 events. Events: ...
Bio:
Brent Abbott competes in a very unusual but very ancient form of athletics: Scottish Highland Games, also referred to as the “Heavy Events” as there are usually other track and field like events in some games – especially in Scotland. Scottish Highland Games origins are lost in antiquity, but are recorded back to the 10th century in Scotland in one form or another. The Scottish immigration to the United States also brought Scottish culture. There have been Highland Games in Canada and the US since the 1800’s. Today there are a couple hundred games year round in North America. The events typically contested in US include:
- Caber Toss (telephone pole toss that most people recognize)
- Weight for Height
- Hammer Toss 16 and 22 lb.
- Sheaf Toss
- Stone Put 16 and 22 lb.
- Weights for Distance 28 and 56 lb.
The competition is like a decathlon in that you place overall by your combined results in 7-9 events. There are different classes depending on the specific games but usually include: Pro, Amateur A, B and C (Top, Intermediate and novice), Women, Master (40+) and Lightweight (<190#).
Brent Abbott has been competing in the games since ’91 and has several titles including: 4-time and current Arizona State Masters Champ, Wyoming state Champ, California State Masters Champ, West Coast Masters Champ, National Masters Champ, National Sheaf Toss Masters Champ, 4th in the World Masters Championship and others.
Brent enjoys Kronik Low-Carb exclusively with his training. He practices low-carb lifestyle for his health and training. Dropping 45+ pounds in the last two years while still performing at the top of his game is a credit to this approach. Also, once considered for medication to reduce his cholesterol, he reduced it to 200 from 256 with this diet and exercise and averages 112/70 blood pressure.
